Ubuntu 9.10 Vs Windows 7

Submitted by Kappithaan on November 20, 2009 – 7:39 pmNo Comment

The much awaited Windows 7 is out and the never ending debate is back on stage with Canonical launching the release candidate of their latest Linux based OS, Ubuntu 9.10 on the same day. With the final version released on Oct 29th the debate is getting hotter, “Windows 7 or Ubuntu”.
After Vista’s cold reception with the exception of gaming industry, its indeed surprising to see Win 7 been critically praised around the world. Win7 is satisfied with lesser requirements compared to Vista, so it should breeze on older systems and netbooks. Win7 is also a visually splendid with a better aero interface with lots of useful features that can accelerate completely on your graphics card thus saving the precious cpu power. Taskbar has become more spacious and notification area less intrusive, actually its been cleaned up with only system icons displayed by default with all others lumped into a flyout menu.

Ubuntu 9.10 also features a quick boot using Upstart(http://upstart.ubuntu.com/). Desktop enviornment GNOME has been entirely renewed, Pidgin has been abandoned only to be replaced by a better one called empathy. BTW 9.10 too has some cool effects integrated into it and comes along with all the essential apps, free ones at that.Canonical has aslo teamed up with IBM to offer companies an alternative to win7 and microsofts’ productivity software.

Verdict: Win7 has been quoted fully stable and ready for mass public use. An upgrade would be worthwhile.
Ubuntu 9.10 looks awsum, it is free and comes bundled with all necessary apps n games.
Afterall we gotta wait and watch, especially with Google Chrome OS released.
